October 13, 2024: The ICYM Vorkady Unit conducted an Inter-Ward Throwball and Volleyball Tournament on October 13, 2024, at St. Joseph’s AUP School Ground, Vorkady, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
The event began with an inauguration ceremony that included a prayer song to seek God’s blessings for the smooth conduct of the tournament. The program was hosted by Ms. Preemal, ICYM Cultural Secretary, while Ms. Diana Cutinha, ICYM President, welcomed the gathering.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Basil Vas, Parish Priest and Director of ICYM Vorkady, along with Rev. Fr. Santhosh D’Souza, Assistant Director, and Sr. Severiene D’Cunha, Animator of the ICYM Vorkady Unit. Rev. Fr. Basil Vas delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
A total of nine wards participated in the throwball tournament and eleven wards in the volleyball tournament, with 149 participants overall. The event was efficiently organized with the active support of parishioners and ICYM members. Mr. Shiva Prasad and Mr. Sandeep served as umpires for the matches.
Tournament Highlights:
Throwball: Pavoor Ward emerged as champions, defeating Uddanbettu Ward in the final.
Volleyball: Thimmangur II Ward claimed victory over Vorkady II Ward in the final round.
Ms. Diana Cutinha, ICYM Unit President, announced the winners and compered the program, bringing the successful tournament to a close.
